Retro Chic: A Guide To Fabulous Vintage and Designer Resale Shopping in North America and Online
- Diana Eden & Gloria Lintermans - What's hot decade by decade from the 20's through the 80's with style tips from fashion experts, Hollywood custume designers, and film and television stars, great book for vintage clothing searching! My website is listed on page 224.

Vintage Clothing 1880 - 1980
Vintage Clothing 1880 - 1980
- Maryanne Dolan - I refer to this book many times, as it helps me identify clothing and establish values, lots of black and white photos. It includes women's, men's, and children's clothing. At the beginning of each chapter she has a history on clothing for that era with invaluable information for the beginning collector. I would recommend this book for anyone interested in vintage clothing.

Antique & Vintage Clothing: A Guide To Dating & Valuation of Women's Clothing 1850 - 1940 - Diane Snyder-Haug - One of my favorite books, it has many photos, includes chapter on care and restoration of clothing which was very helpful to me. In the very back there is a photo quiz to test your knowledge on vintage clothing, missed a couple. Many vintage hat photographs and values are included.

Costume Design In The Movies An Illustrated Guide to the Work of 157 Great Designers - Elizabeth Leece - Lots of beautiful movie star pictures, Vivien Leigh, Rita Hayworth, Audrey Hepburn, Barbra Streisand, Joan Crawford, Lauren Bacall, and many more.

Chanel (The Universe of Fashion) - Francois Baudot - Very interesting reading, she was born into French peasantry and raised in a convent orphanage, certainly had a gift of fashion. She began as a milliner, introduced slacks, the "little black dress", and of course, Chanel perfume.

Elsa Schiaparelli: Empress of Paris Fashion - Palmer White - Yves Laurent - Famous designer of hats, she gave us the Schiaparelli pink!

Books on Hats

Women's Hats of the 20th Century (for designers & collectors) - Maureen Reilly & Mary Beth Detrich - As a vintage hat collector, I would recommend this book, listed it first as it is my favorite. It has wonderful hat history, photos, values, lots of interesting information pertaining to hats, includes hat boxes, hat models (hat mannequins): Coco, Lilly & Dilly, and many more. It even lists department stores, American designers, and the hats are grouped together which makes it easy for you. They have even included suggestions for displaying your hat collection.

Hats: With Values - Desire Smith - Contains over 350 color photographs, this book is a must for a vintage hat collector. She has even included photos of labels which is very helpful for a collector.

Hats Status, Style and Glamour - Colin McDowell - He recounts the achievements of the great milliners, Carolyn Reboux, Paulette, Lilly Dache, Schiaparelli and today's star designers. This book has the most interesting photographs and history of the hat.

Vintage Hats & Bonnets 1770 - 1970 Identification & Values - Susan Langley - This is my most recent book. I like the order of the book: Eighteenth Century, Nineteenth Century, and Twentieth Century in ten-year increments. She talks of hat hunts, care and repair and clues for dating. A major part of the book consists of antique photographs of the hats' original owners.

Books on Accessories

Judith Leiber - The Artful Handbag - Enid Nemy, John Bigelow Taylor - Designer of fine handbags, 192 photos of her great bags.

Collector's Encyclopedia of Compacts Carry Alls & Face Powder Boxes - Laura M. Mueller - I used this book to identify many of my compacts, really helpful as it contains history, value, and colorful photos.

Catalogues
